I was inspired to write about the neuroscience of music for two reasons: (1) I’ve grown to love the brain, and (2) I’m a musician. I was excited to combine an academic interest with a hobby, and learn more about the science behind music.
I also liked the challenge of fitting science to an abstract concept; I personally love the vagueness and subjectivity of music, however science is the complete opposite. I accepted that this is would be a difficult yet unavoidable battle – sometimes science must embrace the abstract.
My target audience are undergraduates in Life Sciences, although much of the content should be comprehensive to undergraduates of other disciplines. I also want to reach people who are highly interested in neuroscience without necessarily having a scientific background.
